Leaves

Torn before, effortlessly

(effortfully), from the branches

of the shagbark hickory,

to fall as the wind

carries tiny things –

(butts, bottles, bags) –

here and there,

down and across,

sweeping and tumbling

towards the grass

and the dirt.
